Elon University uses Canon devices for printing. Students have the option to Copy, Scan and Send, and have access to mobile printing options as well as traditional printing options. This documentation will provide a walk through of those options from the Canon printer.
Trying to copy or print in color? Make sure you're at a color-capable print station. Files are configured to copy or print in black & white by default. Use the options function (outlined in the appropriate tab below) to learn how to set color copying or printing.
Need to check your print dollars? Print stations display a combined balance of print dollars and Phoenix cash. This information is only displayed on the Secure Print screen, and there will be a delay between printing jobs and the deduction from the balance that appears. To find out how many print dollars you have, check your balance via the Phoenix Card portal.
IMPORTANT: If printing using a print driver, whatever print settings you set from the time of printing (e.g., within Microsoft Word) will be set. You will not be able to change these settings from the Options button at the printer.
By submitting print jobs by attaching documents to an email sent to email@example.com
1.) From the Home Screen, select 'Secure Print'
2.) This will bring you to your Printing Queue and Print Dollar Balance
3.) Choose materials from your queue to print
With Canon printers, you can select multiple print jobs at once. This can either be done by manually selecting them, or by choosing the 'Select All' option on the bottom menu.
4.) If you want to change how your document prints (two-sided, black & white versus color, etc) tap the Options button (to the left of Print + Delete in the image above)
If you are using a PRINT DRIVER (and not the firstname.lastname@example.org option), by default, the printer settings for Color vs. Black/White are set to "Auto" by default. Additionally, even if you send a document as "duplex" (double-sided printing), the printer will default to "simplex" (single-sided printing). If you wish to change these settings, you must do so manually from the Options button on the printer itself.
Duplex: Sets two-sided printing and how the document is oriented for printing.
Color Mode: Sets black and white or color printing.
Stapling: Not available.
Hole Punch: Not available.
Copy Count: Sets how many copies to print.
Page Range: Sets the range of pages to print.
Paper Catalog: Not available.
5.) When you are ready to print, tap either 'Print+Keep' or 'Print+Delete'
By selecting 'Print+Keep,' you can print your materials and keep them in the queue for 10 additional hours. By selecting 'Print+Delete,' you can print your materials and clear your queue immediately.
To install the Canon Print Driver for the new printing system follow these easy instructions.
Installing Print Driver for Windows

These instructions will briefly show you how to operate the 'Address Book' option under 'Scan and Send.'
1.) When you first select 'Address Book,' a list of names will pop up
This list of names includes various faculty and staff, included the addresses of certain on-campus organizations.
2.) If you know who you're looking for, select 'Search by Name' at the bottom right of the previous screen

Why do my documents keep printing in color when I set it to Black & White from my computer?
This happens when using the Canon print driver. By default, student Canon print drivers use "Auto" as the default color setting. This means that the printer picks up if it is a color document or black and white by default. You must manually select "Black & White" from the Options button on the printing device and set it manually.
Workaround: Use the mobile print option by emailing email@example.com.
Why do my documents keep printing only on one side when I selected duplex from my computer?
This happens when using the Canon print driver. By default, student Canon print drivers are configured to simplex (single-sided printing). Even if you manually set this on your computer, you MUST set duplex printing from the Options button on the printing device.
Workaround: Use the mobile print option by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where is the card reader?

Where is the serial number located?
The serial number for each Canon printer/copier is located on a sticker above the copy plate. Additionally, the serial number may be found by touching the 'Counter Check' button.
Can I print without a Phoenix Card?
Yes. You should tap the 'AD Login' button on the login screen and enter your Elon email username and password without @elon.edu.
What should I do if the printer/copier says my ID Card is unknown?
If the Canon printer/copier does not recognize your Phoenix Card (as shown below), you should enter your Elon email username (without @elon.edu) and password.
What if my Phoenix Card still isn't recognized?
If your Phoenix Card is not recognized by the system, please contact the Technology Service Desk at 278-5200.
Why doesn't my print job show up in the queue?
There is a 10-15 second lag from sending a print job to it registering at a Canon printer/copier, although it may take up to one minute. If your job does not appear, press the 'Refresh' button on the Canon screen.
Larger files may take longer to appear in the queue.
The color quality is irregular. How can I fix this?
You can recalibrate the machine when you notice irregularities in the color of the copies or prints, such as when copies turn out to be different from the original in gradation, density, or color. To do so, follow the instructions from Canon on how to Auto Adjust Gradation.
Can you use Microsoft Edge browser to print .pdf to the Canon?
There is a known issue when trying to print .pdf to the Canon when using the new Microsoft Edge browser. You will receive a error about unsupported data type.
When using Canon Printers, it is crucial to understand the layout of the printer and touchscreen. You must tap your Phoenix card to 'Log In' to the printer. Once you do so, you will be brought to this home screen. Select which option you would like to use.
To the right of the print screen, there will be a keypad.
If your document does not print, or the Error light flashes, tap the Status Monitoring button on the lower left-hand corner of the screen (below, left). Check the error and make the appropriate changes, such as setting the paper size (below, right).
